SoundTubeSPEC 3.1 Overview
SoundTubeSPEC 3.1 is a tool designed to calculate speaker quantity, spacing and power requirements. Individual speaker specifications and characteristics have been predetermined and entered for each SoundTube model. Therefore, SoundTubeSPEC 3.1 users must input information regarding room dimensions, speaker height, desired SPL, coverage requirements and necessary headroom.
SoundTubeSPEC 3.1 calculations should only be used as guidelines. Engineers still need to use their own skills, knowledge and experience to determine the exact number and placement of speakers for each individual project. SoundTubeSPEC 3.1 does not take into account the acoustic properties of a venue or the physical locations of fixtures, furniture, walkways, etc.

Operating Instructions
1. Type in project name
2. Identify speaker type
3. Select measurement units - feet or meters
4. Enter room length, width and speaker height
5. Identify the volume at listener level and necessary headroom
6. Select coverage quality
7. Select system mode - Voice coil/8 Ohm direct, 25V 70V or 100V .
8. Click "Calculate" to view results
Notes
SoundTubeSPEC 3.1 uses pop-up messages to notify users of potential problems regarding speaker height or volume at listener level. These warnings include messages regarding model selection, power requirements and speaker height. Some warnings include suggestions, while others may direct you to call SoundTube for further assistance. Because a warning does not necessarily mean a speaker shouldn't be used for a particular application, SoundTube encourages questions regarding any message you encounter.
SoundTubeSPEC 3.1 as Part of a
Proposal
To include SoundTubeSPEC 3.1 in a proposal, follow these instructions:
1. Holding down the Alt key,
press the Print Screen key (PrtSc). This saves a copy of the
screen on your clipboard.
2. Open a blank document in a word processing program such as Microsoft Word
and paste the SoundTubeSPEC 3.1 screen image into the document. You may want to
resize the document and/or change the page setup to print in landscape mode.
Specifying Rooms with Irregular Dimensions
To specify irregular shaped rooms (L-shapes; 3, 5 or more walls; curved
surfaces), simply divide the room into sections for specification then combine
the data for a complete 'picture' of the room or building specified. For

Specifying Rooms with Multiple Speaker Types
If you have sections of a job that require multiple SoundTube speaker types
(e.g., RSi & CMi), compartmentalize the room with the speaker type then
combine the data for a complete 'picture' of the room or building specified.

Calculated Insertion Loss
On all transformered systems, SoundTubeSPEC 3.1 has included a transformer insertion loss value of 1.5 dB on all models.
Known Printing Issue
In some installations on Windows 98 and Windows Millennium Edition you may
experience problems with printing. This appears to be a problem with the
compatibility of the Microsoft .NET framework PRINTSCREEN functionality on
these older platforms. To work around this problem follow these steps:
1. When a printing error occurs, an error dialog is displayed. Click the
Continue button to keep SoundTubeSPEC 3.1 open and retain your data.
2. Holding down the Alt key, press the Print Screen key (PrtSc). This saves a
copy of the screen on your clipboard.
3. Open a blank document in a word processing program such as Microsoft Word
and paste the SoundTubeSPEC 3.1 screen image into the document. You may want to
resize the document and/or change the page setup to print in landscape mode.
4. Print the document from within the word processing program.
5. You may save the document if desired.
